Results Overview 2018-19

2018-19

2018-19 was an incredibly succesful year for NCBC, with our W1 achieving Double Headship for the first time in Newnham history, reclaiming Lents Headship for the first time in 36 years, and Mays Headship for the first time since 2003.

Summer Vacation 2019 Races

Henley Women’s Regatta – Newnham W1 joined forces with Fitzwilliam in June to trial for Henley Women’s Regatta. The composite crew put in a great row, coming out just 2.7 secs shy of qualifying for the regatta, and hugely enjoyed their experience of racing on the course!

Nanjing International University Regatta, China – NCBC were invited to race in the 2019 Nanjing International University Regatta in China. Rosanna Barraclough (NC 2018), Hele Francis (NC 2011), Yfke Van Dee Heijden (Girton) and Morgan Morrison (Homerton) represented Cambridge in a coxless 4, and placed second in their division!

Michaelmas 2018 Races

Senior IV at Fairbairns – The Senior IV had a fantastic race, with a winning time of 13:02 – a whole 44 seconds ahead of the next Women’s Senior IV!

Senior VIII at Fairbairns – The Senior VIII also had a great row, with a time of 18:29 over the 4.3km course, coming 2nd fastest W2 crew!

Gryphens IV at Fairbairns – We had one crew participating in Fairbairns in the Senior IVs category, doing fantastically well, even though this was our first outing as a crew of course! The Gryphens IV placed 5th Women’s Invitational IV. There was also BCD afterwards which was well attended by Gryphens and current crews alike. The Gryphen's crew was:

Cox: Hannah Jones (NC 2015)
Bow: Sheila Fox (NC 1974)
2: Agnès de Varine (NC 2012)
3: Ellie Holloway (NC 2015)
Stroke: Emma Karslake (NC 2012)

Gryphens IV at Fairbairns 2018.

Novice Fairbairns – The weather on the first day of Fairbairns was the worst it’d been for quite some years, with many expecting racing to be cancelled. However, it went ahead (albeit with a shortened course, to the P&E) and the Novices put in a fantastic effort! The Novice 1st VIII crossed the line with a time of 9:04, and the Novice 2nd VIII came 10th fastest NW2.

Emma Sprints (Novice Fancy Dress Race) – NW1 reached the quarter-finals, beating Murray Edwards NW1 but being beaten by Wolfson NW1. NW2 reached the semi-finals, beating Sidney NW1 then Corpus Christi NW1, but being beaten by Hughes Hall NW1, who went on to win the event. NW2 ended up fourth, being beaten by St Edmunds NW1 in the race for fourth.

Winter Head – Senior IV came first in their division. Senior VIII came third in their division.

Queens' Ergs – On 27 Oct, two NCBC novice crews competed in Queens’ Ergs, an intense novice team 8 x 500m ergo relay race against other college crews. Both groups came fifth in their divisions, and we had a lot of personal best times!

Uni IV's – Senior IV came first in their division.

Autumn Head – Senior VIII came sixth in their division.
